Memories in Mexico

Matt and I had the most incredible time at the Grand Velas in Riviera Maya, Mexico. We've been very blessed to have traveled quite a few different places, and I have to say...this resort was AMAZING! The service was impeccable, the food was delicious, and the views and pools were perfection. We flew in on Wednesday morning and we definitely lucked out because tropical storm Earl was about 200 miles W of us. We thought we would for sure have rain the entire time, but thankfully it just rained Wednesday night and moved out for the rest of the weekend.

When we arrived Wedneday, we found a cabana on the beach, grabbed a few pina coladas and spent the day relaxing by the ocean. It was perfect! That night we went to the Sky Bar for drinks before dinner at Piaf with Matt and Jaime.  I think I ate salmon at every meal. It was so good! After dinner we went to Koi bar and sat on the patio and listened to the rain. It was a great first night!

This is our own personal Zen garden outside of our room :)

Thursday morning, we slept in and ordered room service.  It was the best room service we've ever had! The presentation and service was phenomenal. And then, of course, there was the food. :) After breakfast, we headed to the adult pool where we laid out and soaked up some sunshine while occasionally jumping in to cool off. We had lunch at Bistro, and then we were back to the pool.  This pool was perfect and overlooked the ocean from no matter where you sat. We had dinner reservations at Sen Lin st 6:00, and ate with the Melcher's, Isenberg's and Gammon's. This was one of my favorite restaurants. The food was fabulous.  Afterwards, a big group of us went to Koi and then to the Kareoke Bar.  It was a memorable night!

Friday morning we ordered room service again and then went back to the pool. When I say this vacation was relaxing, I'm not kidding! We really did nothing but lounge daily in chairs and cabanas, drink pina coladas, and eat. I was finally able to start reading a new book and slept in daily until 8:00.
We at lunch at Azul's. They had great sushi, and the view was impeccable. Every direction we looked was turquoise water. ;)  Friday night, we ate at Frida's.  I think out of all the restaurants, this one was my absolute favorite!  We opted for an early night after filling our tummies...we were in bed by 10.

Saturday, we went to eat breakfast at the buffet in the Zen Garden. It was a beautiful view.  Afterwards, Matt went to work out, and I did yoga on the beach with Jeanna and Jenny.  It was so nice to listen to the waves while exercising.  You can guess what we did afterwards...yep!!! We went straight to the beach/adult pool and spent our day relaxin' to the max!  We ate a quick bite at Bistro and then went right back to swimming.  There were these wonderful ladies that came by and gave me a scalp and foot massage by the pool...AMAZING!!  When I say this resort was heavenly...it truly was!  That night we went to eat at Lucca with the Wiseman's, Price's, and Peck's.  It was the perfect ending to our wonderful day.

Sunday, we were super excited to get home to see our munchkins.  Matt and I are so blessed to have had this time together, but I think we've decided about 5 days away from the kiddos is our max.  They were taken very good care of my Mimi and Pawpaw while we were away. (Check out their Build-A-Bear haul!)  We flew home that afternoon and were back by 6:00 to get our gang fed and tucked into bed.  I can definitely say that this place is on our list of returns. We loved it!!
